Help Desk
The Court started the Help Desk program at the start of 2018 in an effort to assist unrepresented individuals unable to afford legal representation or advice. Qualifying participants sign up through court staff for scheduled time slots to meet with local attorneys who volunteer to assist these individuals. Participants can then meet with the attorneys as arranged and receive legal advice relevant to the participants’ current or anticipated legal issues. The Help Desk is offered for Juvenile Court matters as well as Probate Court matters.
Participants: How to Sign Up
Interested participants must meet three requirements to qualify for assistance through the Help Desk:
- Be a Wayne County resident or be involved with a case or potential case through the Wayne County Probate and Juvenile Court;
- Require legal assistance with a juvenile law or probate law matter; and
- Be unable to hire an attorney, as documented through a financial eligibility form.
The Juvenile Court Help Desk generally meets the first and third Fridays of each month. Please call (330) 287-5561 and request a juvenile clerk in order to sign up for an appointment.
The Probate Court Help Desk generally meets the second Friday of each month. Please call (330) 287-5575 in order to sign up for an appointment.
Attorneys: How to Assist
The Court appreciates the work of attorney volunteers for the Help Desk program, and the Court can provide compensation or pro bono documentation for attorneys who assist the program. Any attorney interested in participating in the Help Desk should call (330) 264-4970 to inquire further and schedule.
